Hades 2 (Hades II) is the fifth studio title by Supergiant Games. Interestingly, it is also their first sequel — taking on the mantle of the first Hades.
The original Hades was released in 2020 following an early access 2 years prior. It was a massive hit among both critics and gamers, winning several awards and selling over a million copies.
Needless to say, the anticipation around the Hades 2 is massive.
Hades II is a rogue-like dungeon crawler, where players will battle the Titan of Time in the Greek Underworld using dark sorcery.
Technical test, early access, and release date
In 2022, Supergiant Games took the stage at the Games Award to announce Hades II — the same way they announced the prequel four years prior.

Hades 2 will go into early access in Q2 of 2024. The San Francisco-based game studio promises that the early access game will have as much content as the early access of the first game on Steam.
Before commencing early access, Supergiant Games will conduct a technical test with a sample of interested gamers.
The aim is to fix any technical bugs and issues that could bug players during the early access. For this reason, this version of Hades 2 will have much less content than the early access one.
From early access, the game will receive multiple Major Updates with core content and refinement leading all the way to version 1.0.
The studio has refrained from specifying a date for the release of Hades 2.
Platform support
The early access to the game will be exclusively available on PC. You can even add the game to your wishlist on Steam and Epic Games right now.
Console players, on the other hand, will have to wait for the v1.0 release to get their hands on the Hades 2.
Even then, it’s not clear which console platform the game will be on. For reference, the original Hades is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
The World of Hades 2
In Hades II, gamers will take on the role of Melinoë, the Princess of the Underworld from Greek mythology. She is the sister of Zagreus, the protagonist of the first Hades.
She is described as “an immortal witch and sorceress with powerful magical abilities, deadly skill with a variety of shadowy weapons, and a score to settle.”
Chronos, the Titan of Time and the wicked father of Hades and his brothers, has escaped his imprisonment in the depths of the Underworld to wage war on Olympus. Can Time itself be stopped?
Hades II picks up the story at a later point following the events of the original game. This game will be the entry point to the Hades franchise for plenty of gamers.
Fortunately for them, the new game doesn’t require the knowledge of the previous one.
However, returning players will definitely be able to tie the dots between the two. The games take place in the same Underworld based on Greek mythology — just not at the same time.
