It’s been reported that the upcoming Redmi K80 series will see a significant increase in prices. According to tipster Digital Chat Station, the price hike on the Redmi K80 Pro will be even more significant.
For reference, prices for vanilla K70 and K70 Pro started at CNY 2,499 and CNY 3,299, respectively. Redmi also added a third K70 Extreme Edition with a starting price of CNY 2,599.
This news comes just after Wang Teng, Xiaomi China’s Deputy General Manager of Marketing and Redmi brand General Manager, announced he had completed reviewing Redmi’s upcoming flagship series.
He is hyping up the Redmi K80 series, saying Redmi’s upcoming flagship phones are greatly upgraded in performance and even claiming they are better than the competition.
Nothing about the new phones has been confirmed. However, the Redmi executive has hinted at an ultrasonic under-display fingerprint sensor in another of his posts.
The K80 Pro could be the first Redmi phone to come with an ultrasonic sensor for fingerprint scanner. Redmi has been using optical solutions for the in-display fingerprint sensor on all its phones.
This shift aligns with Redmi’s commitment to moving the K series to the true flagship arena after it announced the new Turbo series for the flagship killer midrange segment, where the K series made its name.
The phone would be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite (previously thought to be Snapdragon 8 Gen 4) and MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chips, the latest chips being among the factors for the supposed price hike.
As per the Weibo post, the Redmi K80 series will be available before the end of this year. For reference, the K70 series was unveiled in November last year.
