Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the current Qualcomm flagship, was announced in October of last year. It’s a known secret that its successor is currently in the works. A prototype sample of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 surfaced recently with below-expected benchmark results, with Antutu score ranging between 1.7 million to 1.9 million.

The score is better than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 but is not good enough for the successor of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which has scored over 2 million Antutu points in some recent flagships.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 CPU clock frequencies

Now, Digitial Chat Station has assured that this doesn’t paint the picture of the chip’s final performance. He has stated that the benchmark score is the result of the prototype’s lower clock speed.

For reference, the CPUs of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 prototype were heavily nerfed with the performance cores capping at 2.4 GHz. Likewise, the efficiency cores were hitting the 1.939 GHz mark.

According to the tipster, the performance cores of the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will have a base clock speed of 3.6GHz. Likewise, the boosted frequency is said to be around 4.0 GHz.

The chip will have single and multi-score CPU scores of around 2,7000 and 10,000 points, respectively on the Geekbench 6 benchmark store.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 specifications (rumored)

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 (SM8750) is currently in development under the codename Sun. This chip will switch to a more efficient 3nm fabrication process by TSMC.

Probably the biggest change in the 8 Gen 4 would be the transition from ARM Cortex CPU cores to Qualcomm’s self-developed Oriyon CPU cores. The chip will have a total of 8 CPU cores, consisting of 2 Phoenix L efficiency cores and 6 Phoenix M performance cores.

It will also feature a Low-Power AI (LPAI) subsystem with a dedicated DSP and AI accelerator (eNPU).

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 launch timeframe

Qualcomm will most likely unveil the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 at the upcoming Snapdragon Summit in October. According to reports, the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 phone will be released by Xiaomi in China in the month.

The prototypes of the chips have already been sent to the OEM manufacturers for testing. It will go into mass production in March.
