Nothing’s new mid-range contender, the Phone (2a), goes on sale in India today. Ahead of the launch, the company is pushing out a software update, Nothing OS 2.5.3, introducing several changes for the smartphone.

The software update centers on improving the Phone (2a)’s camera capabilities. Nothing has added support for Ultra XDR as well as tweaks for faster camera app performance, enhanced HDR processing, and color saturation. The front-facing camera also gets some attention with claimed improvements to image clarity.

Other software improvements include refined user interface elements across the system, smoother overall animations, and more enhanced background app performance. If you want fine-grained control over vibrations, the update now includes a granular haptic feedback setting as well.

Perhaps the most interesting addition is a new Recorder widget that offers a discreet call recording feature — you won’t hear an audible announcement notifying the other party that your conversation is being saved. Nothing CEO Carl Pei says this was a highly requested feature from its community. Finally, you’ll also find fresh camera and battery widgets in Nothing OS 2.5.3.
