Toyota has announced updates to its GR Corolla hot hatch for the 2025 model year. The biggest news is the addition of an eight-speed automatic transmission as an alternative to the standard six-speed manual. The Japanese automaker claims that the auto box has tech that can predict driver inputs and shifts accordingly.
Despite the new transmission option, the GR Corolla’s 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine remains unchanged in terms of horsepower, still producing 300 ponies. However, torque has been bumped up from 273 to 295 lb-ft, bringing it in line with the limited-edition Morizo model.
To handle the extra grunt, Toyota has stiffened up the suspension with new front and rear rebound springs, tweaked the rear end, and raised the trailing arm mounting point.
All 2025 GR Corolla models, regardless of trim or transmission, come standard with front and rear limited-slip differentials (LSD). It was previously optional on the base model and standard on higher trims.
Visual changes are also on the menu, with a redesigned front bumper to accommodate a new sub-radiator and transmission fluid cooler for automatic-equipped cars.
Toyota has also introduced a new top-tier trim level called Premium Plus, which boasts a carbon fiber roof, vented hood, and black wheels previously reserved for special editions. Pricing for the 2025 GR Corolla will be announced closer to its on-sale date, which is expected to be late 2024.
