The upcoming MWC 2024 event in Barcelona will have many brands launching their new phones. But we are especially curious about the Sony Xperia 1 VI.
Not only is it rumored to be be last Xperia flagship but it is also bringing some interesting smartphone tech.
No Fake Imagery
Recently, Sony announced that it is working on a new camera authenticity tech that would create birth certificates for photos.
Basically, the tech will create digital signatures for each photos at chip-level at the time of capture.
The signature will act as a record of when the photo was taken and if it has been tampered with.
This will help in distinguish “real images” from the ones made using generative AI. This is the exact opposite of what Samsung did recently by integrating Galaxy AI into Galaxy S23 Ultra and company.
This new camera authenticity feature is almost certain to be available on the upcoming Xperia 1 VI.
New x6 Zoom Lens
As far as the camera hardware is concerned, the Xperia 1 VI will sport a new 6x telephoto lens. It’s not clear if it will offer continuous optical zoom like its predecessor.
Regardless, the 6x zoom is still a step above last year’s 5.2x and the competition that have only have 5x.
It is supposed to be a large sensor but we don’t have actual size yet. What we know is that it will be using Sony’s Clear Image Zoom technologies.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 3
No surprises here – the Xperia 1 VI will be powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. This latest flagship chipset from Qualcomm is built on a 4nm process.
It is based on a 1+3+2+2 CPU arrangement with the Cortex-X4 (@3.3GHz) leading the line as the Prime core. It is backed by two duos of Cortex A720 performance cores, clocked at 3.2GHz and 3.0GHz, respectively.
Finally, the it has four Cortex-A520 efficiency cores at 2.3GHz).
Likewise, handling the GPU is the Adreno 750.
Sustainable Packaging
Some leaked promotional material for the upcoming Xperia 1 VI hint at the phone coming with ‘The most sustainable packaging in the world.”
So, it’s safe to assume that Sony is making the box from recycled material and that it won’t be including any accessories.
Sony Xperia 1 VI Release Date
All the leaks so far point to Sony Xperia 1 VI being announced at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC). The event is scheduled to place in Barcelona from February 26 to February 29.
As with Sony phones lately, we expect Xperia 1 VI to hit the market a few months later.
That being said, it will still be early compared to its predecessor which went to sale on July 2023 after being announced on May 2023.
