Huawei‘s been dropping not-so-subtle hints about a tri-folding phone for months, with CEO Richard Yu practically using it like an accessory in public. Now, the company has finally confirmed a launch date for the device on September 10th – conveniently, just a day after Apple’s big unveiling.
The official announcement made on Huawei’s Weibo account is light on specifics. But the event poster shows a vaguely triple-fold-ish device with two opposing hinges, practically confirming the long-rumored tri-fold format.
Furthermore, a source told Bloomberg that Huawei is set to launch a phone that folds twice on September 10. So, yeah, it’s pretty clear what we’re getting here.
The launch timing, however, is anything but coincidental. Apple’s big unveiling of the iPhone 16 series is on September 9th. Huawei, it seems, is aiming to steal some of Cupertion-giant’s thunder with its innovative new foldable – at least in its home market of China, where both brands hold significant sway.
What to expect from Huawei’s triple-folding phone?
Huawei has been tight-lipped about its upcoming foldable phone, virtually revealing nothing about it. But thanks to industry leaks, we know a few key details.
The foldable is said to have a big 10-inch display in its unfolded state and will feature a Z-fold design for a more pocketable (relatively speaking) phone form. Images of Yu holding the device also reveal a surprisingly slim folded profile that looks no thicker than the current mainstream foldable like Z Fold 6.
Given that this is a first-generation tri-folding phone, don’t expect it to be an affordable machine. The rumored price range for this device is anywhere from $2,800 to $4,900, converted from Chinese yuan to USD.
