Huawei finally shows off its triple-folding phone

Earlier this week, Huawei revealed the launch date for its first tri-fold phone, the Mate XT Ultimate Design (yes, that’s the name). Now, they’ve officially shared a teaser video, offering the first look at its design.

The video shows a phone that unfolds into a tablet-sized device – we’re talking a rumored 10-inch display here supported by a complex dual-hinge mechanism. This, of course, is the biggest selling point of this guy.

Imagine editing documents, browsing the web, or even taking notes with a stylus (which the XT is rumored to support) on such a spacious display. Foldables have always been about maximizing screen real estate, and the Mate XT takes that concept to a whole new level.

Now, the teaser keeps details about the hinge and overall durability under wraps. Durability is a major concern with any foldable, and a phone with three folding points certainly raises the stakes even higher. We’ll have to wait and see how Huawei tackles this challenge.

Moving on to the design, Huawei seems to be borrowing a page from the Mate 60 RS Ultimate Design. The rear features an octagonal camera module, likely housing a periscope telephoto lens, with a vegan leather back for a touch of class. We can also see “Huawei” and “Ultimate Design” branding etched below the camera module.

Apart from this, the teaser doesn’t reveal much else, but rumors suggest the foldable will be priced at around $2,500.
