Sonos unveils Ace, its first wireless headphones

By Sanjeev 3 Min Read

The wait is finally over — Sonos has unveiled its first wireless headphones, the rumors of which date back years. The brand, known for its home theater system, will now compete against the likes of Apple, Sony, and Bose in the wireless ANC headphones segment. With the new TruCinema technology, Sonos Ace promises the immersive sound experience the company is known for in the over-the-ear form factor.

Sonos Ace overview

Sonos Ace features a stainless steel headband and vegan leather-clad memory foam. The replaceable ear cushions are color-coded to differentiate the side they go in.

Each cup houses a 40mm custom-designed dynamic driver designed by industry experts. They support lossless audio over Bluetooth or USB-C connection.

There is Active Noise Cancellation to help you immerse in the music you are listening to. This is achieved by a group of eight microphones that are placed strategically to wear out ambient noise.

For times when ambient sound is crucial, you can switch to Aware mode, Sono’s own take on Transparency mode. The said microphones feature special mesh over them to help reduce wind background noises during voice and video calls to maximize the clarity of your voice.

There is a dedicated Noise Control button that lets you switch between ANC and Aware mode.

Sonos Ace supports spatial audio on supported devices. It brings Dolby Head Tracking with intelligent motion processing which can be enabled from the Sonos app. Adding to the immersiveness is the TruCinema technology, which will be debuting later this year.

Sonos lets you switch from its soundbar to its headphones with a push of a button. This can be done using the Content Key, which is primarily for playback control, volume adjustment, and calls.

Sonos Ace is equipped with a 1,060mAh Li-ion battery, rated for up to 30 hours of music time or 24 hours of talk time, even with the ANC or Aware mode turned on. It ships with a rapid power charger, promising a complete refill in 3 hours. A quick 3-minute recharge can add 3 hours of music time.

Sonos Ace price and availability

Sonos Ace will go on sale in the US for $449 starting June 5.
