Nothing has just confirmed the launch date for its third-ever phone. The company released a YouTube video today confirming the launch date, among other things, regarding the upcoming Nothing phone (2a).
Launching on March 15
Given the time of Nothing’s announcement, it was assumed that the phone (2a) would be part of the company’s MWC 2024 showcase. However, with the official information already, that won’t be the case.
Nothing will announce the phone 2a will be announced at an event on March 5 at 11:30 AM GMT. There will be a separate event for the Indian audience in New Delhi.
As far as the availability goes, Nothing has been confirmed in India, but we expect the phone to be available in the European market as well.
The phone won’t be available in the US — at least for the general phone. Nothing is limiting the phone 2a reach to developers by making it part of the “Developer Program.”
Still no words about the price
The price of the Nothing 2a is still for guessing, but the video did imply that it would be cheaper than the phone 1.
For reference, the Nothing Phone 1 launched at EUR 369 in Europe and INR 32,999 in India. Leaks so far point to Noehing phone 2a launching at EUR 349 and INR 30,000
No Competition Says Nothing
The smartphone market is full of affordable Android phones, and they even outsell their flagship counterpart.
That said, Pei pointed out that most of the phones in this space are outsourced products with little to no thoughts about innovation. As a result, they are mostly decoys without a personality of their own.
This is where the Nothign phone 2a will differ from the rest. Pei says this phone won’t try to be something it isn’t. It will carry on the Nothing design that we have come to expect from the company.
Chris Weightman, who is part of the Nothing design team, confirmed that Gylph and transparency will still be part of the phone 2a, although a bit limited in comparison to the flagship lineup.
Nothing phone 2a Leaked Specs
The full specs sheet of the phone (2a) is still under the wraps. However, we’ve learned a few bits thanks to the leaks.
Nothing phone 2a will move away from Qualcomm and will instead be powered by Dimensity 7200 Ultra. The phone will feature a dual 50MP camera arranged horizontally at the back.
It will ship with Nothing OS based on Android 14. There will be no wireless charging but will retail 45W of wired fast charging.
There will be no deceptive ads on the phone despite the trend in this space.
