- Unveiled at CES 2024, Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid is now available for purchase in Eurozone, UK and China.
- The ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid is a 2-in-1 that merges an Android tablet and a Windows laptop into one, but comes at a hefty price tag.
Earlier this year at CES, Lenovo showcased an innovative 2-in-1 laptop called the ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid. The device is finally available for purchase in the Eurozone and the UK for €1,979 and £2,199.98, respectively. Whereas in China, it retails at CNY 15,999.
The ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid isn’t your typical 2-in-1 laptop. It’s two separate mobile devices designed to function as one — an Android tablet and a Windows laptop.
The Android tablet, or “Hybrid Tab” as Lenovo says has a high-resolution 2.8K OLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. It runs Android 13 and offers typical tablet features like quad speakers, 38Wh battery, a decent 1080p front-facing camera, and a pair of 13MP and 5MP rear cameras.
Docking the tablet with the keyboard transforms it into a display for the Windows portion. The keyboard base, also called the “Hybrid Station”, has an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor, Intel Arc GPU, 32GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD, and a 75Wh battery inside it. This part runs Windows 11 and allows you to use all your productive applications and even play games that aren’t available or less enjoyable on the Android side.
There are other usual stuff on the base that you’d expect on a Windows PC, such as two Thunderbolt 4 ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack, a fingerprint reader, and even two separate 2W speakers.
Thankfully, Lenovo has thoughtfully planned for file synchronization across the system. There’s a Hybrid Folder accessible from both operating systems where you can drop files you want to open on the other OS.
Moreover, you can even connect the Hybrid Station to an external monitor to run Windows while using Android on the tablet itself for a dual-device setup. Not to forget, there’s stylus support as well.
While the combination of Android and Windows machines is certainly innovative, it does come with its limitations. It’s not particularly portable—the Hybrid Tab alone weighs 785 grams, and the Hybrid Station adds another 970 grams, bringing the total weight to 1.75 kg.
Additionally, the device isn’t affordable by any means. While both components are individually powerful, for what it costs, you could easily pick a premium laptop with similar if not better specs and buy a separate premium Android tablet—each with its own display, of course.
