iQOO’s upcoming flagship phone will have one peculiar feature

iQOO — the Vivo sub-brand — is all set to unveil its latest flagship phone, the iQOO 13. And besides the latest processor and everything else, it seems that the phone will have one more trick up its sleeve. A glowing “halo” light around the camera module.

Here’s what to expect from iQOO 13

We already have our first look at the halo light ring in a very official-looking render of the iQOO 13, courtesy of Digital Chat Station. Whereas we now have a real-life image (although one that’s particularly blurry) that shows the said halo light in action. It’s unclear as of now if the light ring will serve any photographic purpose, like Vivo’s “Aura Light” for portraits, but we do know that it will have RGB lighting.

Other than this, the iQOO 13 will have the same squircle-shaped “porthole” camera design inspired by submarines. And while iQOO is sticking to the same 50MP JN1 sensor for the ultrawide camera, the iQOO 13 gets fresh new Sony sensors instead of ones made by Omnivision. So you now have a 50MP IMX921 main sensor and a 50MP IMX826 telephoto camera capable of 2x optical zoom, which is actually a downgrade from iQOO 12’s 3x telephoto camera.

The iQOO 13 gets some much-needed design upgrades too. Including IP68 dust/water resistance (up from the IP64 rating on its predecessor), an upgraded vapor chamber cooling system, and a single-layer motherboard for better heat dissipation.

Likewise, iQOO is promising big improvements in terms of the display as well.

So the iQOO 13 will use BOE’s latest “Q10” display that promises advances in everything.

According to BOE itself, this OLED panel has a 12.5% higher global peak brightness, a 33% boost in lifespan, a 10% lower power consumption, and a 50% reduction in color deviation. Moreover, the iQOO 13’s LTPO display will measure 6.7″ diagonally, boast a 2K resolution, and up to 144 Hz refresh rate. And we’re also expecting an ultrasonic fingerprint reader — instead of an optical one — this time.

Some big performance upgrades too

When it comes to performance, the iQOO 13 will powered by Qualcomm’s yet-unannounced flagship mobile chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 with custom “Oryon” CPU cores. Some early benchmarks reveal massive performance leaps this year, both in terms of CPU and GPU, and rumors suggest Qualcomm might actually call it “Snapdragon Elite”. The iQOO 13 will get the fastest memory and storage options as expected, whereas it will have a custom Q2 Supercomputing Chip as well for 144 fps gaming.

And iQOO’s upcoming flagship phone will get a massive 6,150 mAh battery, which is 23% larger than the iQOO 12’s 5,000 mAh unit. Although it seems that the charging speed has been downgraded from 120W to 100W this time.

Going by the teaser posted by the company, the iQOO 13 will most likely launch in China on December 9, where Vivo will also show off “OriginOS 5”. Its latest China-exclusive Android skin. Then again, a Smartprix report suggests that the iQOO 13 will actually make its debut in India on December 5 at a starting price of INR 55,000 (USD 650).
