Chery’s Jetour brand has officially launched the Shanhai L6, a new plug-in hybrid SUV (PHEV) in China. It’s the second vehicle in the Shanhai series after the T2, which was launched in April this year.
The Jetour Shanhai L6 comes in three trim levels — Pro, Max, and Ultra — with a starting price of 123,900 yuan (approximately $18,000). Jetour is targeting this EV at young drivers in China looking for a stylish and practical option for urban commutes and occasional outdoor adventures.
Part of this youth-centric approach is evident in the design itself. Although the Shanhai L6 is an SUV, it doesn’t have a traditional SUV box shape design. Rather it looks more like a coupe, which is known for its sleek and sporty aesthetic.
Its front fascia has sharp LED headlights and a closed grille at the bottom — reminiscent of Chery’s Jetour Dasheng model. At the rear, a long, streamlined taillight and an electric tailgate complete the look.
The vehicle measures 4630 mm in length, 1910 mm in width, and 1684 mm (or 1690 mm) in height and has a wheelbase of 2720 mm. It comes in six colors, Moonlight White, Interstellar Black, Phantom Gray, Vanilla Blue, Star Mist Silver, and an optional Bibo Green.
Inside, the Shanhai L6 has a spacious cabin with a 15.6-inch touchscreen on the dashboard. It’s in 2K resolution and you get Sony’s 9-speaker sound system and 64-color ambient lighting setup to further enhance the in-car experience.
For the interior, you can have personalized suede panels, while the seats are ergonomically designed with multi-layer cushioning, massage functions, and leg support. Storage solutions are plentiful, with 32 compartments scattered throughout the cabin.
For extra comfort, the Shanhai L6 comes with a parking air conditioner, a 50W wireless charging pad, and support for 6.6kW external discharge to power up your outdoor equipment.
The Shanhai L6’s performance is handled by Chery’s fifth-generation Kunpeng super hybrid C-DM system. It combines a 1.5TD gasoline engine with an electric motor for a combined output of 115 kW (154 hp) and 220 Nm (162 lb-ft) of torque. This allows the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km in just 7.7 seconds.
And if that’s not enough, the PHEV’s efficiency is equally impressive. With 44.5% engine thermal efficiency and 98.5% gearbox mechanical efficiency, the Shanhai L6 consumes 5.2 liters of fuel to cover 100 kilometers in hybrid mode. The vehicle has a pure electric range of 125 km on a single charge while the combined range reaches an impressive 1,400 km.
The Jetour Shanhai L6 prioritizes safety with a cage-type body structure comprised of up to 80% high-strength steel plates. It includes six airbags for added protection in the event of a collision. Also, Jetour claims the SUV has a braking distance of just 36.6 meters from 100 km/h to a complete stop.
Additionally, the L6 features L2-level driver assistance systems with 540-degree panoramic imaging. The PHEV even has an IP68-level waterproof battery safety system for added peace of mind.
